History of the Club.
The records of the society go back to an AGM held in 1936, however it is believed that was operating in a less formal way much earlier than this. The society was changed in 1990 to a limited company as most other clubs have done. We have occupied our present site since 1936 and members constructed the present track layout in 1947. We can operate 3.5" , 5" , and 7 1/4" gauge models on the raised track.

The clubhouse offers us facilities for holding meetings, which are held on the second Sunday every month during the winter period and working parties on the fourth Sunday. During the summer from April to October we operate the railway for the general public on every Sunday and Bank Holiday, all of which start at 2:00pm. The monies raised help pay for the railway and club facilities which are also supported by Carlisle Council. In addition to the above we also hold an annual open day where other clubs are invited to bring their engines along and enjoy the clubs hospitality.

Work started on replacing the tracks, our original plan was to remove only the 5" and 3 1/2" gauge aluminium track, however with this type of project after lifting the one section it was found the steel sleepers were badly corroded and so the job became a total replacement project.
Measuring the track ready to be sectioned up.
Although when visually checked the sleeper securing bolts looked in reasonably good condition when we started undoing them, the real state was revealed as it can be seen from the picture below ( the blood on the hands is optional).

Using angle grinders to cut out the sleepers proved to be to much for one of the grinders but fortunately having our club 'sparky' on hand quickly repaired the offending unit
