With great sadness I learned today that one of our members, Alan (Robert) Bowron passed away earlier this month at the age of 85 following a long illness. Alan was a quiet and gentle soul with a hilariously dry wit who had been a dedicated and active member of the club for many years. He was an exceptional and skilful model engineer who took me under his wing when I first joined the club, nurturing my interest in model engineering and teaching me everything I now know about live steam and boiler building/testing. He had built 2 steam locomotives that were very popular attractions at Hammonds Pond railway, his 7 1/4” gauge Holmside tank loco and his highly acclaimed 7 1/4” gauge American Shay which went on to win the Stephenson’s trails held at Hammonds Pond in 2014.
Rest in peace our dear friend, you will be sorely missed.

Welcome to the Carlisle and District Model Engineering Society website, we have been at our present site for sixty-one years and run the trains for public passenger carrying on every Sunday and all Bank holidays between Easter and October from14.00hrs till 16.30hrs subject to weather conditions.
The club has an Atlantic class steam loco in 5" gauge and a
7 1/4" electric loco which are used for hauling passengers.
All visitors are welcome, track, upgrading has been completed you are very welcome to run you own loco on our small but interesting track, don't forget though if it is a steam loco you
will need to bring your boiler certificate with you.
Society members also have interests in traction engines of which two are currently under construction, clocks, stationery engines, and ICengines, several members also make their own tools and equipment.
